Marlene Dumas ‘The Painter’ (1984) |
I was lucky enough to catch the Marlene Dumas retrospective
The Image as Burden at Tate Modern last week. If I'd seen a show like this while I was still painting, I might never have given it up. Her work proves that contemporary painting can be socially and politically charged as well as deeply personal, beautiful and emotional.
Until Sunday 10 May 2015, Tate Modern, Bankside http://www.tate.org.uk/whats-on/tate-modern/exhibition/marlene-dumas-image-burden
